What we build.
At Atlas, we are engineering the next generation of search and rescue drones—designed to exceed the limitations of today’s systems. Our innovative approach uses a modular range-extender platform that can deploy multiple, smaller, cost-effective drones to dramatically expand coverage while keeping operational costs low.
Deployment.
This system enables teams to transport several lightweight drones into remote areas, where they can quickly divide and search large regions in parallel. By minimizing the need for heavy, expensive long-range UAVs, we empower first responders to act faster—when every second matters.
Built with flexibility and affordability in mind, our platform can be adapted to suit a wide variety of environments, mission profiles, and regional needs.
Why we build.
Atlas was founded by a recent University of Alabama graduate who recognized a critical gap in wilderness search and rescue: the lack of affordable, reliable aerial support. Traditional long-range search drones are often prohibitively expensive—placing them out of reach for many teams and communities.
We’re working to change that. By combining range-extending aircraft with compact, cost-effective drones, Atlas aims to make advanced aerial search capabilities accessible, scalable, and mission-ready.
Who we are.
Our founder, Thomas, holds a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics from the University of Alabama, with a focus on the design and development of small unmanned aerial systems (UAS). He served as the lead engineer and stability lead for MESA, a long-range fixed-wing drone designed for medical supply delivery, and led research on an omnicopter platform for multi-target satellite tracking simulations within the Laboratory of Autonomy, Guidance, Navigation, and Estimation Research (LAGER).
Worldwide experience.
Beyond his engineering work, Thomas has explored over 35 countries across four continents. From trekking in the Himalayas and climbing volcanoes in Guatemala to sleeping under the stars in the Sahara, his travels—fueled by academic experiences in France and research in Belgium—have deepened his appreciation for remote exploration.
Passion for design.
Atlas Flight Systems is the result of a lifelong passion for engineering and adventure. Our mission is to modernize and enhance the aging search and rescue systems that countless lives depend on—both here at home and in the most remote corners of the world.
